In the 21st century we are witnessing a global
crisis. Not only in regard to our health but one concerning our pattern of
living. Apart from the world being a mess due to the havoc wreaked by the
pandemic, we saw many protests and conflicts in the middle of this turning
point in the history of mankind.
The world has seen young protestors riot on the streets just because their favourite hair studio had been closed and simultaneously - young adults who were fighting for the genuine equity and equality we all are entitled to as they are our birthright.
That is the difference between rebellion with a true cause and useless whining, but modern youth tends to constantly misunderstand the core idea of rebellion which is to fight for what you believe is right.
For instance, fighting for basic human rights such as
equity, gender equality and the coverage of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs for your
community – is a rebellion against social injustices. On the other side, rebelling
against the closure of beauty salons in the midst of a pandemic is virtually rude as
it puts some badly raised individual’s need for a new hairstyle above much more
important issues.
We witness both on a daily basis and somehow we rarely
acknowledge how twisted and deranged the concept of rebellion has become. We
have forgotten, that before we rebel, we should find out what is right to rebel
against. Or it’s pointless.
