Many people have learned a foreign language in their own country; others have learned a foreign language in the country in which it is spoken
Although some have learned a language in their own country and others in
the country which it is spoken, I believe that the best way to learn a foreign
language is by combination of both since learning just by one of these ways you
miss some major points both in the spoken and written language.
Firstly, if you study a foreign language in your own country you will
have time to go through the grammar and vocabulary in that language you are
learning the speaking part will be difficult for you even if you practice with a
native speaker.
On the other hand, if you decide to learn a language in the country it
is spoken and you know nothing in that language, at first you will have
extremely hard time learning it and going around your daily life when everywhere
you turn it seems that people are talking some gibberish and the writings are
just an ensemble of symbols. Unless you get a tutor or at least buy a text book and
start learning some basic vocabulary and grammar you will be exhausted at the
end of every day because of all the mind work you will be putting in to get by
in this unknown place.
However, if you go to study a foreign language in the country it is
spoken and beforehand you have learnt some of it in your own country you will
have no trouble getting by in the foreign one and all you will be doing is
perfecting your knowledge, pronunciation and speaking.
To sum up, in my opinion the best way to learn a new foreign language is
by learning the basics or even more in your own country and then going to
refine your knowledge and perfect your
fluency in the country it is spoken. This way you will not feel completely lost
when you go to learn it in the other country.
