What are the reasons for most young people's apathy, procrastination, lack of motivation, and overall dissatisfaction with their lives, society, and school?
Nowadays, there is a terrifying tendency gooing on among youngsters, teenagers, and even young adults, and it seems unstoppable. The biggest problem is their overall dissatisfaction with their own lives and everything they are surrounded by. Teenagers just cannot realise the way they live depends only on them and their own actions.
First of all, a main reason for such apathy, procrastination and lack of motivation could be the huge amount of freedom that students are given by their parents. Parents love and provide for their offspring and cater for all their needs. However, they often forget about the love and attention, the conversations, the personal example, and the quality time spent with them, which are vital in the process of upbringing and much needed, too. On the other hand, too much attention and cares from parents can lead to spoiling the kids by relieving them from any chores or housework. Thus, resulting in the youngsters forgetting that they are actually part of the society and they have duties and obligations, not just freedoms and rights. They actually get used to not having any responsibilities which usually leads to boredom and greater apathy.
Secondly, students think only about themselves. It is common for the youth to be a bit selfish, even superficial and to take everything their teachers and parents do for them for granted. They lack purpose, so they lack motivation. They do not like rules and restrictions, because they have never had them at home. Undoubtedly, the rules parents enforce at home are of utmost importance for raising children as valuable members of society. That is why providing parental guidance and direction is crucial.
Thirdly, social media is another major factor in the moulding of an individual. As we all know, students spend almost all their free time (and they actually have a lot since their parents have taken care of everything) aimlessly scrolling through a myriad of modern phone apps, watching the "perfect" life of Instagram models and celebrities which is another reason for them to feel dissatisfied with their own lives and to complain while doing nothing, being couch potatoes, because they are just lazy which they would never admit.
To sum up, if students do not change their habits and attitude to life, parents should do it by using severe rules. I just hope it wouldn't be too late for that.
