English is the most commonly spoken language in the world today. As a person fairly fluent in english, I can assure you it definitely improved my life in a lot of great ways so far.
First of all, many people certainly experience difficulty in finding the needed materials and data in their mother tongue on a, let us say, less popular topic, as most of the information on the Internet is in English. This is where it comes in handy. Trust me, it feels quite liberating scrolling through thousands of pages in English and easily comprehending everything.
Another significant improvement my English language skills have brought about into my life is the exciting ability to communicate with people from all around the globe. Being able to speak and write in English has given me a great freedom to socialise with people from different countries and nationalities online. It has given me the advantage to be able to learn about other cultures straight from the source, on the web, or just practice the language with a native speaker.
Also, the merits of travelling abroad when speaking good English are numerous. It is easier for me to order food, to ask local people for direction and other travellers for recommendations for sights. Proficiency in English gives me independence.
Today I feel privileged to be capable of reading classic literature in English, watching a movie without subtitles, and listening to songs without trying to translate the lyrics. My English language competence has turned out to be particularly beneficial to the quality of my life.
As a conclusion, speaking English is imperative and I am glad I have acquired that functional competence for it has changed my life for the better. It is an indispensable skill that has helped me a lot in my growth as a person and an individual, and I could not be happier about it.
